January Update

Who Belongs to The Homeowners Association?

Simply, everyone who owns property within Pleasant Pointe.

See – the homeowners voted to form the association a couple of years ago. Once that was done, all property owners became members, whether you voted to or not.

The Homeowners Association (not the officers – all of us…) are now legally bound to pay certain bills. These include bills for certain lights in the neighborhood, upkeep of the entrance ways and such. And if they aren’t paid, the debt legally belongs to every property owner.

That Is What The Dues Are About

The Homeowners Association dues pay those bills. We’re talking $8.33 cents per month. Pays the bills – doesn’t buy socials, doesn’t pay the officers (we are not paid) – just pays the bills. Oh…and it is dues time again. By the end of January. $100 covers the entire year.

But We Are Behind, & Nearly Broke…

Because, if you can believe it, some won’t pay $8.33 per month – each member’s share – to cover the bills for the common amenities. That’s a shame, too, because of what happens next.

The Next Steps…

Unfortunately, homeowners associations across the country have this problem with a few members. Local magistrates have seen way too many of these cases. It usually works like this.

At some point the Homeowners Association will take the issue of unpaid dues to court. And our Magistrate has already indicated that he will impose a court order to require payment of all back dues…but he will also charge the homeowner the court costs for the hearing.

Now, really, nobody wants that to happen – but, if necessary, that is what will have to happen. Prevent the ill will: pay the bills.

Annual Homeowners Association Meeting

Please join us for the annual meeting at the Pentecostal Holiness Church just across Pine Log Road on Tuesday, February 9th, at 7:00 p.m. We will be respectful of your time – and we sure would like to hear from those with good ideas and an interest in the neighborhood.

We will be discussing community by-laws at this meeting. Our intent is to get this right…not too much, not too little. C’mon out and help.
